hmm.. this one but you should solve for the correct answer: When twice an unknown number is added to thirteen, the sum is twenty-five.

Well I'll break it down:
I'll use 'N' has the unknown number
'When twice an unknown number'-that probably means 2n
'Is added to thirteen'-that means you would have '13+2n'
'The sum is twenty-five'-that means the answer is 25
The entire equation is 13+2n=25
Then you have to break it down to find out what 'N' is.
13+2n-13=25-13 (Reverse operations-usually you add 13, now you add AND subtract 13)
Than you have 2n=12
2n DIVIDED 2=12 DIVIDED 2 (reverse operations-usually you times by 2, now you times and divide by 2)
n=6

Uhhh, yeah, I'm pretty sure. I was in Advanced Math and we spent a month or two on that single subject. It got annoying after awhile.

And you can check the answer. You know the entire equation is '13+2n=25'. I think 'n' is 6. So in the equation you plug in the number.
13+2x6=25
Then Order of Operations states you do multiplication before addition
13+12=25
Then you add
25=25
The answer checks out, so I'm pretty sure it is correct

but what if i say your answer is incorrect..

ok here's the solution of my teacher:

25x+3x=34
3x=34-25
3x=9 (and divide both sides by three)
x= 3

so 3 is the answer.. but i don't know why where he got 34.. so confused!

Are we talking about the same example? I don't know how he got 34. And BTW, how is 'he'?

yeah.. the same example i gave you.. and our teacher in math is a boy.. and he supposed to be our computer not MATH teacher! cuz he don't know how to teach math very well! lolz

If this is his answer:
25x+3x=34
3x=34-25
3x=9 (and divide both sides by three)
x= 3
There was no number grouped with 25 and it said twice an unknown number, not triple, and there is nothing mentioned about anything equaling 34.
