1. Is there a trick to catching shhiny pokemon or do you have to be extremely lucky?
2. How do you make AR codes?

There are 2 ways to increase the chance for meeting a shiny pokemon.
You can chain by using the pokeradar in diamond, pearl and platinum.
It is complicated so i should look at this link:

You can also use the Masuda method.
This means you breed 2 pokemon with one of them from an other country.
(example: Japan)
You will have more chance to meet a shiny pokemon this way. (1/2048 instead of the usual 1/8192)
I do not have an AR so i cannot help you with your second question.
