Firstly; but not holding an ignorant view on the world.
Secondly; it's not "dating" per se. It is however, the forming of a special and romantic relationship.
Thirdly; You'd be suprised at how common relationships built via the internet really are. It's much in the same way as what used to happen a lot. A friend would give you this persons cell # - you'd text a while, maybe call. If things got to a mutually agreeable point; you'd meet up.

It's not really that hard of a reality to grasp.
