Thats fine. As for Max and Drake their more of stand in characters then anything. Used Drake a couple of time with Silver and Grace but never really used Max. Hes a shiny Spinark the only one that hatched and is Popcorn and Zitta's brother.

If it looks bad, then don't make the shading so dark. Just set the opacity on the shaded level to about 20, maybe 30 percent. That should clear up any problems.
