I have a feeling I'm going to go on a rant soon.

And Eli, to answer your text: It's because it takes a lot more to prepare the food than it does to serve it. McDonalds has two main crews - Production and Service. Service people tend to the customers by taking their orders and giving out the food. Production people actually make the food and deal with stuff in the back. It's a lot harder to be a production person than it is a service person, and there are also more production people than there are service.

There's 1 person on the drive-through, 1-2 people on the registers, and maybe 1 other person on the drinks. That's it for service. For production, you have 1 - 2 people on the grill, 2 - 3 people on the assembly line, 1 person on the fried products such as chicken, 1 person on the fries, and probably a few people cleaning. The manager stays in the back as well and deals with phone calls and money. The people cleaning are most likely people that are about to get off of work. You also have a few people in the VERY back occasionally, stocking up all of the freezer products and the stuff on the shelves. There's also a sink in back, so sometimes people are washing dishes.

All in all, Production > Service in the case of quantity, though for quality of work, you want to be Service.
